Have they owned a dog before? Have they owned Staffords before? Or have friends or relatives who have? Do they own any other dogs/pets? Have they considered the consequences of introducing a new puppy? Where do they live? Does it have a fully fenced garden? Or access to open space? Do their neighbours have dogs? (Or cats?!) What breeds? Have they anticipated any problems? Is the prospective owner married/living with someone (how long/ is it a steady relationship)/living at home with Mum and Dad? Does the other party want a Stafford puppy too? Are there any children/what ages? Any plans for children if they haven't any at the moment? Are there other children (nieces/nephews) that may visit? Is the accomodation privately owned? If not, are there any restrictions on pets by the landlord? How long have they lived at this address? Is someone at home with the puppy all of the time/most of the time? If working, can they pop home during the day to check on the puppy? These are the sort of questions I would ask over the 'phone, then if I established that the person seemed the right sort, I would invite them to see the pups at a later date. When I met the person I would discuss more general areas such as: Feeding Where will the pup sleep? Eat? Talk about cages/collars/leads. Have they recommendation of a vet? Insurance? Worming and innoculation Flea treatments Ringcraft or puppy play school for socialisation. Joining a breed club. Responsibilities regarding the DDA and fouling laws.
